Football Performance Sports Dietician

(UAB) The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking qualified applicants for the position of a Football Performance Registered Dietitian. This is a full time, salaried, benefits-eligible position.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as Sports Dietitian within the compliance of the NCAA regulations
  • Manage and operate the football fueling station daily in order to provide athletes with supplemental shake and food options
  • Oversee nutrition student workers, interns, and volunteers
  • Demonstrate inter-professional collaboration by communicating and working closely with departments such as Sports Medicine and Strength & Conditioning to provide optimal nutrition education and help athletes reach performance goals
  • Provide and maintain nutrition both in and out of season and at all competition events including home games, scrimmages, and travel games
  • Provide hydration and quick carbs to athletes before and during practice
  • Complete athlete nutritional assessments, weight management programs, and body composition analysis for student-athletes
  • Counseling athletes in both individual and group settings for optimal performance and health
  • Evaluate the safety, quality, efficacy, and legality of nutritional supplements as well as monitor usage to ensure proper supplementation
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and record keeping while understanding confidentiality of information and HIPAA compliance
  • Utilize evidence-based practice and have strong knowledge in areas including disordered eating, weight management, and optimal nutrition needs required for competition, training, and recovery

Minimum education required: Bachelor’s degree in nutrition/dietetics or other related field from an accredited university or college

Additional education desired: Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required qualifications:

  • Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association
  • Certification/License: Registered Dietitian with active registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association; Certification/Licensure as required by state of practice
  • Demonstrate strong written and interpersonal skills with student-athletes, coaches and/or various other people inside and outside of an athletic department
  • Proficient with MS Office Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook programs
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the professionalism and intensity necessary to successfully contribute to a Division I athletics program
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of food safety guidelines and general health code regarding food
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends with frequent travel in-season
