Position Summary:

The Chicago Cubs are seeking applicants to be part of our Minor League Performance Nutrition Intern Program. Each intern will work in collaboration with the Minor League Performance Dietitian Coordinator and Food Service & Catering Coordinator to deliver nutrition services and meals to minor league players. This candidate will oversee one of the Chicago Cubs Minor League Affiliate teams, multiple locations TBD (Arizona Complex, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Kodak Tennessee, South Bend, Indiana, Des Moines, Iowa).

 

Duties and Responsibilities

·       Coordinate with Minor League Performance Dietitian Coordinator to develop player plans for the season and track goal progression for each player.

·       Conduct individual nutrition consults with athletes (under direction and support from the MiLB Performance Dietitian Coordinator). This will include counseling athletes on various areas within performance nutrition and MNT. Report each session on our online platform to keep other staff members informed.

·       Provide nutrition education group sessions as needed based on the most pertinent topics to the team.

·       Attend weekly meetings with the nutrition team to discuss player progressions and clinical situations.

·       Conduct various assessments during the season from body composition, hydration status, intake quality and meal plan design (under direction and support from the MiLB Performance Dietitian Coordinator)

·       Take part in fueling our athletes by prescribing and making special shakes along with providing snacks for both home and away games. Responsible for keeping inventory on the team supplements and coordinate with the MiLB Performance Dietitian Coordinator on their availability during the season. Educate our athletes on supplements and reinforce recommended intake protocols.

·       Collaborate with the Minor League Food Service Coordinator to assist collecting food menu feedback and designing menus with direction of the MiLB Performance Dietitian Coordinator.

·       Serve as on-site point of contact for food service/catering.  Expected to attend both home and away games to receive and help set up the pre-ordered meals (Pre/Post Game) from catering companies or restaurants. Ensure proper food safety and sanitation practices.

·       Serve as an effective member of the High-Performance department including Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning, and Mental Skills. Maintain high-quality intervention and support to each of our players.

 

Qualifications:

·       Graduate of a Dietetic Program ideally post grad school to allow for maximum commitment to this position

·       At least 6 months experience in sports nutrition at the collegiate or professional level (Previous internships or positions)

·       Ability to work independently and maintain a high level of professionalism

·       Ability to work in a team environment showing excellent communication skills to enhance player support.

·       Must be able to work unconventional hours (Ex. weekends, evening game coverage, etc.)

·       Strong desire to be a part of a collaborative and integrative environment that supports professional development and professional excellence.



Preferred Qualifications:

·       Registered Dietitian or RD Eligible within 3 months of hire

·       Previous experience working in baseball (Collegiate, MiLB, MLB) and other team sports.

·       Ability to effectively communicate in Spanish.

 

Compensation:

·       20K per season

·       1000/month housing stipend

Arizona Complex Intern: End of February – Beginning of September

 

All other affiliates: End of March – End of September, (Travel with team for all away games)

 

Each intern will attend the onboarding in Arizona the last week of Spring Training for about 3 days before heading out to each affiliate.
