Position Summary:

 

The Sports Nutrition Staff Assistant is aimed for motivated individuals seeking to gain a concentrated educational experience in providing sport specific nutrition support and services for a Power 5 Division 1 football program.  This opportunity will prepare a Registered Dietitian for advanced sports nutrition practice that will optimize student-athlete performance, and improve student-athlete health, welfare, and lifetime wellness through an interdisciplinary model and the utilization of evidence-based practice concepts. This position aims to further the development of Registered Dietitians into future leaders in the field of sports medicine through mentored sports performance education opportunities along with dedicated sport assignments. This Sports Nutrition Staff Assistant will be responsible in assisting the Football Sport Dietitian with various performance nutrition services for the student-athlete, support in executing daily team nutrition operations, as well as effectively communicating with sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and football coaching staff regarding the student-athlete’s performance and overall wellness.  

 

Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:

 
  1. Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics and NCAA policies and procedures.
  2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules and procedures.
  3.  Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor and staff members who work within or outside his/her work unit.
  4. Support the athletics departmental goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics, and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values.
  5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and working with other staff members.
  6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics.
   

7.    Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

        1) Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

        2)  Assist in managing football fueling station, smoothie station and cafeteria.  Duties will include, but not limited to, scheduling staffing, overseeing inventory, stocking, and organizing all products.

3)    Assist in executing specific performance hydration and fueling nutrition protocols.

4)    Develop and design educational materials, present small group team talks according to needs.

5)    Assist Football Sports Dietitian in planning pre and post-training meals as well as monitoring team meals.

6)    Assist in team body composition testing and analysis.

7)    Adhere to nutritional supplement use policies and procedures.

8)    Facilitate grocery store tours and cooking demos.

9)    Assist as a nutrition resource for athletic trainers, coaches, strength & conditioning coaches, medical staff, culinary and food service personnel.

10) Document performance nutrition metrics, including recovery initiatives, team education interventions, individual athlete consults, body composition assessments and progress, and biochemical parameters

11) Assist in researching and analyzing scientific and lay reports related to nutrition and athletic performance, including nutritional supplements and diets and help translate the findings into sound advice for student-athletes and respective staff.

12) Perform any other additional duties as assigned by the Football Sports Dietitian or Director of Sports Nutrition. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or closely related field;
  • Background in sports nutrition and exercise physiology;
  • RD or RD eligible;
  • Be able to lift/carry objects up to 30lbs.
